Here is a wonderful new book written (as most good books are) on several levels. Certainly, Song of the Universe is a spellbinding novel of intrigue, guile and mystery. That enough is a recommendation for you to buy it. But Mr. Veres has given us more.
Song of the Universe is also an ambitious work about one man's spiritual growth that takes him from the mundane and typical lifestyle typified by this quote from a letter to his daughter, "And so I not only sacrificed my human values for a paycheck; I also, without realizing it, gave up a chance to participate in the wonderful discovery process that was your unfolding from infant to girlhood to womanhood."
But that is still not the total worth of Song of the Universe because Mr. Veres has incorporated the truths at the heart of the major religious traditions to illuminate a path to wholeness we can all follow.
So, we have a page-turner of a novel about a securities broker who, against his better judgment, enters into a supremely profitable real estate deal not realizing the property is part of a drug cartel's development plan. The property is occupied by a group of spiritual seekers with strange and unusual abilities---a good versus evil scenario that will have you turning pages to the conclusion.
Robert Veres not only writes well, he teaches us lessons many of us tend to ignore. For instance, "The concept of status and greed and the invention of unnecessary expensive physical luxuries, and the advertising which promises that they will fulfill your soul---these are wonderful generators of dark energy, disappointment, frustration, anger and despair."
Song of the Universe may very well become the major book in the new age genre. It not only defines what "new age" means with ambitious pre-chapter quotes from the mythical Rutherfordton Spiritual Gazette, but it also helps us recognize how prepared we are to seek truth. As the Gazette tells us towards the end of the book, "The final test of a true member of the New Age is whether he or she would be capable of recognizing God when confronted with Him, and would be able and willing to put aside his/her life at a moment's notice for a chance to walk alongside the Living Truth Itself."
Song of the Universe is as good as it gets!
