MERLIN’S MESSAGE :

THE JOURNEY HOME

By Denise Moon

Call it a fairy tale, Call it folklore, or call it mythology. Any description you select would apply to Merlin's Message as long as you add fast-paced, exciting, captivating, transformative and magical. Author, artist and story teller Denise Moon has weaved a captivating tale of one boy's growth; you'll not be able to stop reading.

Set in a time long ago, Merlin's Message is about an adolescent boy, Michael, raised by an evil step father and his oh-so-ill mother. The characters include Zeus, his brothers Poseidon and Hades, Merlin (who is Michael's grandfather), beasts, centaurs, little blue men, mermaids, demons, fates, fairies and, oh yes, trees, shrubs and stones that talk.

Fourteen year old Michael sets out on a journey that ultimately is not just to get away, but a journey of discovery…of himself, the world, and to find his mother. In the doing, he sails on an old wooden ship that ultimately sinks. As the only survivor, Michael finds himself on an island…a very special island…an island wrapped in magic.

In the doing, he discovers his true purpose. We read, “Being alone with my only thoughts for company, my mind was fertile ground for all kinds of imaginings”. And so will yours for Michael has landed at a place of good and evil. He learns, “Life is a constant journey of finding your pathway to yourself.” Merlin's Message is a page-turner with many messages. Certainly we follow Michael's search for his destiny, his knowing and his power.

But Merlin's Message is so much more for you, the reader, to identify with. This imaginative, creative, flowing work will get you nodding your heads in recognition of your needs and desires. Denise Moon has given us a novel for teens to adults and, if I don't miss my guess, Merlin's Message is destined to be a major motion picture!
