Concerti Grossi by James Forte, Electric Symphony There are many words to describe James Forte and his music. A few that come to mind include prolific, artful, innovative, talented, spiritual, creative and impressive. And so, not surprisingly, his latest effort, Concerti Grossi is no exception. Here are four musical movements each as different from the other as night is from day. Yet all are embossed with the unique Forte touch. Track number one is strings, French horn, trombone and trumpet. The music is soft, yet wide-ranging and offers a journey to a better place, rather like a stream heading for a garden of eden. Track two is strings, harp, oboe and flute. Here are the sounds of delight and joy as if floating on a cloud in heaven---total and seamless relaxation. Track three for strings, oboe and muted trumpet transported me to a faraway place, but no further than my heart. Track four is almost all strings and is as elegant a movement as anything I’ve ever heard. |

I am joyous to be able to call James Forte my friend, even though we have never met face-to-face. Each piece of music he writes is an adventure. Every melody transports this reviewer to a new and better place. It is no wonder he has been honored by his peers and audiences, time after time. Concerti Grossi is the eleventh album from James Forte. He has been writing music all his life, and just keeps getting better. In this reviewer’s opinion, you’ll want to add Concerti Grossi to your collection. And if you are like me, it will always be found on top of your “frequently played” stack of CDs. Richard Fuller |
